DBT-Adolescent Referral

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy for adolescents and their parents/caregivers help to improve relationships, manage emotions, and understand feelings, increases skillful decision-making, reduces behaviors such as self-harm and substance use, and assists with managing caregiver/teen conflicts.

General concepts of DBT-A include Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, Interpersonal Effectiveness, and Walking the Middle Path. WMHC is certified by MN DHS to provide DBT-A.

Consistent attendance by adolescent and at least one parent/caregiver is mandatory.

How to register: Individuals ages 12-17 may be referred by self, parent/caregiver, therapist, psychiatric prescriber, social worker, skills worker and anyone else providing care to the teen. Registered participants and their parent/caregiver will be contacted to schedule an initial DBT assessment to assess appropriateness for group, commitment, and readiness to change. In order to offer adherent DBT-A, adolescents will also receive individual therapy once a week from a DBT qualified therapist at WMHC.
